The thin baked skin is filled with green pea paste! The green pea paste sandwiched between the baked skin made from wheat flour, eggs, and sugar was painstakingly created by Ichitarou's great-grandfather in the mid-Meiji period. The ninth generation Ichikawa Danjuro said, "It looks like the mountain baking of Mikasayama in Nara, and the green paste is like the buds of young grass," and so it got its name.
